EDUCATION

The Hispanic League facilitates education for Hispanic students through the Middle School Achievers Program and the Scholarship Program.

  • The Middle School Achievers Program provides motivational speakers to ESL students at 10 local middle schools, where approximately 600 students participate, and 72 students receive incentive awards for their achievements and improvements. Plus, there is an 8th Grade Essay Contest each year!

  • The Scholarship Program awards $2,500 - $5,000 annual scholarships to outstanding Hispanic students who are current or former Forsyth County English Language Learner (ELL) and/or Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. This program culminates at the annual Spanish Nite Gala, where the community recognizes the recipients. Since 2000, the Hispanic League has awarded 600 scholarships worth $1,449,500, with 46 scholarships presented in 2022.

  • The Parent Enrichment Program is a collaboration between the Hispanic League and the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System to conduct a series of parental training sessions offered in SPANISH weekly. The purpose is to empower Hispanic/Latino parents to foster and support the education of their children. The sessions are on Tuesdays at 11:00 am through Facebook Live. Those that pre-register are eligible for the weekly $50 drawing.

CULTURAL

The Hispanic League promotes multicultural understanding each fall at Fiesta, it is a Winston-Salem community tradition. With an average attendance of over 20,000 people celebrating diversity, Hispanic heritage, and cross-cultural understanding, it is the Triad's largest one-day Hispanic street festival.

  • A one day festival in Winston-Salem to kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month. Fiesta is full of cultural delights, music, food, family fun, and a vibrant celebration of our diverse community. In 2023 we hosted Fiesta at the Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. Thank you to all the sponsors and vendors that participated in our 31st Annual Fiesta. We are celebrating our 32nd fiesta on Saturday September 14th in downtown Winston-Salem.

Live Streams are on pause for now.

  • The quarterly FaithAction ID Drives for the community where any individual may receive photo identification. The FaithAction ID’s are recognized by local law enforcement, healthcare facilities, and other partner organizations/businesses. Since 2016 we have distributed over 1800 community ID cards.

  • We offer info sessions throughout the year, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Latino American Women’s Conference, and more. These opportunities are open to all interested in learning more about the Hispanic community.
