History
Established in March of 1992, The Hispanic League was envisioned by a group of professionals hailing from different backgrounds and fields, including business, law, medicine, religion and education. Created with the intention of becoming a liaison between the business community and Hispanics (the fastest growing segment of our workforce), The Hispanic League has sought to foster diversity and heighten awareness in our community.
Even though widely believed to be understated, the US’ 1990 census revealed the presence of over 76,000 Hispanics in the state of North Carolina, a figure which increased to over 378,000 residents by the year 2000. These numbers are further expanded when counting seasonal migrant workers that take up temporary residence in North Carolina. Identifying the linguistic and cultural challenges faced by Hispanics, the Hispanic League has been dedicated to addressing the immediate and specific needs of Hispanics, including assistance with health, legal and tax matters, as well as citizenship and naturalization requirements, English as a Second Language education, and referrals to bilingual attorneys and doctors.
