**Hispanic League regretfully cancels Fiesta 2009 event**

The Hispanic League’s 2009 Fiesta scheduled for Saturday, September 26th in downtown Winston-Salem has been cancelled. The League’s Board of Directors and Fiesta Planning Committee regretfully have decided to cancel this year’s event due to the economic conditions locally and nationally. Over the past 12-18 months we have experienced increasing unemployment rate, plunging stock market prices, and increasing home foreclosures which have greatly impacted the amount of individual and corporate sponsorships available. Therefore, the Board of Directors elected to host another event later in the fall season that delivers an immediate benefit to the Latino community. In today’s economic environment the League felt the funds for Fiesta can better serve the Latino community through programs that would assist in providing basic living assistance to families and children. The specifics of the fall event will be released at a later time. .
